PFS/SIB Partnership project with government
This project aims to provide health guidance to those who have not yet undergone screening and high-risk individuals who have discontinued treatment, in order to improve lifestyles and control deterioration in renal function. In addition to investing in this project, the SIIF was involved at the project structuring stage in designing outcome metrics and methods for evaluating social impact, as well as investigating payment conditions and funding approaches. At the project implementation stage we provided further assistance, such as by conducting periodic progress monitoring.
Overview of the “preventing progression of severe diabetic nephropathy” project
The social problem and its background
When diabetic nephropathy becomes severe, artificial dialysis becomes necessary, resulting in a reduction in quality of life for the patient and leading to increases in medical costs. For these reasons, preventing the progression of severe diabetic nephropathy has become a topic of discussion at many local public bodies. In order to prevent the progression of severe diabetic nephropathy, Kobe City is providing health guidance and encouraging screening for those who have not undergone screening from a medical institution despite a risk of diabetic nephropathy, etc. being indicated by the results of designated health checks, as well as to those who have discontinued treatment for diabetic nephropathy. These initiatives work to prevent the progression of severe diabetic nephropathy and moderate medical costs, but given that there are still people who have not undergone screening or who have discontinued their treatment, the development of new methods to change the behavior of such people and to prevent the transition to artificial dialysis remains a problem.
